There's a new commercial circulating online and on TV for this week's episode of Fox's show "The OC" that also teases the new Revenge of the Sith trailer which will apparently air during that show. So Star Wars fansites and movie websites everywhere are talking about this commercial for a trailer for a movie, which starts to get pretty high-order when you really think about it. It got a little self-referential when a story at CHUD mentioned how 'meta' the whole thing was, but then there was a circular reference to the site itself covering the commercial for the trailer for the movie. This is my blog entry talking about news articles and blogs covering a commercial for a trailer for a movie and then talking about that process, thus looping back in one more time until I'm not sure how many layers of meta this is, but it's funny and telling.
What else besides Star Wars could generate this kind of frenzy? Media watchdogs sometimes write about the way the media covers a news event, and then media watchdog watchdogs criticize those analyses, but in the realm of popular culture, there's nothing quite as scrutinized and talked-about and anticipated as Star Wars.
Personally, I'll be skipping The OC in favor of the big screen treatment of the trailer with what looks like a lame movie, Robots this Friday!
